About WIUGC

The Western Inter-university Geosciences Conference is a student-led conference aimed at providing students in geoscience or with geoscience interests at western Canadian universities with a place to meet, learn, and share their interests. We are proud to bring your 58th annual WIUGC in Calgary in 2025.

 

WIUGC 2025 Calgary aims to provide geoscience students in western Canada with a place to meet and learn from each other. The conference will feature technical presentations from industry and student geologists, networking events, field trips, and a trade show with representatives from companies across Western Canada.

Meet Our Team

The 58th Annual WIUGC is being planned by a group of students from Calgary's Mount Royal University.

Callista Elias - Co-Chair

Callista is in her final year of Geology at Mount Royal, and will graduate from the Bachelor of Science program in June 2025. When she is not out exploring neighbourhoods, she loves to get out into the mountains to hike.

Jessalyn Hall - Co-Chair

Jessalyn is a 5th year geology student at Mount Royal University. Her interests currently lie in mineral exploration and planetary geology, and she has a summer of experience working in uranium exploration in Saskatchewan. On the side, she loves hiking, rock climbing, and saying yes to too many geology-related volunteer activities.

Kieran McClenahan - Treasurer

Kieran is a 4th-year geology student at Mount Royal University. He previously completed an Earth Sciences Diploma at Yukon University. He has worked in mineral exploration for six years in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and British Columbia

Alyson Stauffer - Events

Alyson is currently a fourth year student at Mount Royal University persuing a BSc. Geology. Her passion for geology began at an early age growing up on a farm in central Alberta where my love for the outdoors and all things rocks guided her career choice. She currently have two years of petroleum exploration experience working at CNRL and Paramount Resources Ltd. in Fort McMurray and Calgary Alberta, as well as completing research related to the early lacustrine deposits of the Chemeron Fm. in Baringo Basin Kenya. 

Pawel Kuczaj - Events

Pawel graduated from Mount Royal University in 2024 with a Bachelors of Science in Geology. His go-to sports are skiing, hiking, and rock climbing, which eventually brought him to geology as a career. He has had three years of mineral exploration experience in the Yukon and NWT and he's currently working on a petroleum exploration project with CNRL in downtown Calgary.
